Stock
Donations:
Gifts of stock - especially long-term appreciated stocks
- provide benefits to G-CAPP and to you, the donor.
G-CAPP receives immediate funding, and you can:
- Give
away appreciated assets and usually avoid tax on the
gain.
- Receive
the regular charitable income tax deduction (if you
itemize on your tax return).
- Claim
a tax deduction for the full fair market value of
your stock if you have owned it for more than one
year; this means your tax deduction will be based
on the fair market value of the stock, not the cost
value of the stock.
There are two ways you can donate stock to G-CAPP:
Electronic
transfer
Direct delivery
Electronic
transfer is the safest and most secure manner for
donating stock. It also ensures the most expedient delivery
of the donation and cost savings to G-CAPP in terms
of handling the donation.
Transferring Stock to G-CAPP from a Broker/Banker:
Step One
Contact G-CAPP's Executive Director for the electronic
routing instructions, 404-475-6048. We will give you
the DTC participant number, account number, and tax
identification number for G-CAPP. Give us your NAME
and address, because we do not receive this when stock
is transferred electronically (we only receive the
name of the company from whom the shares were held.)
Step Two
Give this information to your broker/banker, or ask
him/her to contact G-CAPP directly for the information
in step one. Direct your broker/banker to complete
the transfer of stock, resulting in your donation.
Step Three
Be sure to let G-CAPP know if you wish your gift to
be used for a specific purpose or program within the
organization, so that your wishes can be acknowledged
and honored.
Direct
delivery allows you to bring your stock certificate(s)
to the G-CAPP office, or send them via certified mail.

Transferring Stock to G-CAPP via Direct Delivery:
Step One
Contact G-CAPP's Executive Director for the electronic
routing instructions, 404-475-6048.
Step Two
Complete a "stock power of attorney form."
(Your broker or banker can provide this form to you.)
You will need to fill out one form for each stock
that you will be donating. Sign each stock power of
attorney form, and have the signature witnessed and
guaranteed by your broker or banker.
Step Three
Write a letter indicating the number and types of
shares of stock you will be donating, including the
company name(s) and the purpose of your gift. Please
attach a copy of your letter to each stock power of
attorney form. (See sample letter above)
Step Four
Bring your donation to the G-CAPP office or send it
via Certified Mail. Send the stock certificate(s,)
without any endorsements, with your cover letter attached.
