Individual Support

G-CAPP, along with many youth-serving organizations, has celebrated a decade of progress in reducing adolescent pregnancy in Georgia. In fact, since 1991, the birth rate among 15-19 year olds in Georgia has declined 27 percent. Since its creation in 1995, G-CAPP continues to partner with youth service organizations, state agencies and the private sector so that Georgia’s teens are empowered to make informed decisions about their health, relationships and future as successful adults.

G-CAPP believes that all children are entitled to a safe and healthy adolescence characterized by hope, respect and the opportunity for a productive future free from early pregnancy and parenthood. G-CAPP’s mission is to eliminate adolescent pregnancy in Georgia by developing, establishing and supporting ideas and program innovations that promote the healthy development of our most vulnerable adolescents.

G-CAPP Programs

  1. Carrera Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Model: empowers youth through an intensive, year-round, multi-year after school and summer program that is designed to improve academic skills and prevent teenage pregnancy through developing personal goals and aspirations.
  2. Community-Based DOULA Project: improves birth outcomes and mother/child bonding through trained birthing assistants providing social and emotional support to teenage mothers and their babies during pregnancy, labor and post delivery.
  3. Plain Talk/Hablando Claro: helps adults, parents and community leaders develop the skills and tools they need to communicate effectively with young people about reducing adolescent sexual risk-taking and teen pregnancy.
  4. Second Chance Homes Network: helps teen mothers to become self-sufficient by providing them with a safe living environment, support for long-term economic independence, child development, parent and life skills.
  5. Advocacy and Research: ensures that policy work is shaped by the most current information available and to inform and engage policymakers, youth professionals, and elected officials on issues related to adolescent reproductive health and youth development.
